Pokawa is the name proudly worn by each of our Barakawas throughout the Paris region (approximately 10 restaurants), France (Nantes, Nice, Aix-en-Provence, and soon Marseille, Bordeaux and Lille) and the world (Our Poke bowls traveled to Medellin, Colombia!)
Founded in 2017, Pokawa was created by an inseparable pair, Sam & Max, who set off on a round-the-world trip: they discovered the famous Poke by chance and decided to be the first to export these island flavors to the French capital.
Does Pokawa mean something in Hawaiian?
No, not really. It’s simply the contraction of POKE and HAWAÏ. And bam! POKAWA! Smart, isn’t it?
What’s a Poke?
Poke (Po-Keh) /poʊˈkeɪ/ verb– Hawaiian to “slice” or “cut crosswise into pieces” – pronounced Poh-kay
A Poke is a modern version of the traditional Hawaiian dish: a combination of cubed marinated fish served on rice with delicious toppings.
In our place, you are the master of your Poke: you can select or swap specific ingredients, according to your tastes, your hunger, your diet (vegetarians can exchange fish for tofu or falafel for example). Our passion is to serve colorful and delicious Poke bowls, made with fresh, seasonal, healthy and tasty products.
What more could you ask for? Oh yes, icing on the Poke, ours are quite affordable.
